Clients = Frustrating

So I officially have three clients as of right now. Its pretty cool moving up the ranks and getting more responsibility. Our firms turnover rate is increasing as of right now. One audit manager just left (of the 3 we have) and another may be leaving as well. This leaves as with many many clients to pass around.

I am a bit frustrated with my clients right now. One of them I don't have to do on-site fieldwork, so they usually send me a box full of the invoices and information I require. Well.. its been almost 4 weeks and I have yet to receive a box. I emailed the one employee in charge and she has yet to respond.

Another one of my clients refuses to make any of the adjusting journal entries we give them. So each year we have a plethora of entries to make... not fun.

And my final client is supposed to send me the management rep letter.. two weeks ago.. good luck with that.

This was by far the coolest client I had ever been to. It was a non profit summer camp. So during my lunch break I was able to roam the camp, and checkout the local wildlife. Oh I forgot to mention that the summer camp had a red tailed hawk that was roaming the camp. It couldn't fly, but it WAS able to pounce. Unfortunately my camera did not work so I was not able to take any pictures.

Just moved out of the bullpen and into a shared office. Not much of a post, but at least Im moving up in the ranks. Also im supposed to be getting my own clients in April. This means more $$$, more responsibility, and more late hours. After working as an intern for 6 months, then a staff accountant for 1.5 years, I finally get a promotion (about time, right?)

I must say that I am already really please with the office. I do share it with a few people but that's still pretty cool. I'm just enjoying the fact that I don't have to hear the copier/phone/stapler/printer/fax machine all making noise at the same time. I had dreams of going "office space" on it...

Been doing nothing but proofs and scanning documents for 3 weeks... There is almost no work to do right now. Currently mailing out tax engagements so we can get our tax season underway. The boredom is quite intense. I'm glad I don't have to do this type of work everyday. Plus the copy machine is killing my eyes.

Wrap up Audit Season

Well... we have been officially done with the majority of fieldwork for about a week now... There are a few pros and cons to this:

PROS
  • No overnight travel
  • Home at a reasonable hour
  • Only need to go to one location day after day
  • Not as much work to do
  • If you are staff; much more relaxed atmosphere

CONS
  • Tired of the drive and day to day routine
  • Have to see the same people everyday for the next 3 months
  • No gas reimbursement
  • Not as much work to do
  • If you are senior/manager/partner; most stressful time of audit season

So all in all.. I kind of miss field work already. I cant imagine a job where I have to go to the same office, everyday, for 10-15 years (or maybe up to 40 years). No wonder most people are unhappy. Whats funny is that during audit season, I complain that I want to go to one office everyday, how I am sick of traveling, and sick of the hours. As of now I miss them.
